Christmas Tree from Sizzix Big Scallop

Here's a tree I made using the big scallop die with my Big Shot machine (I LOVE that machine!)  Tutorial is below the picture.  I must tell you that the idea for this tree hit me after seeing this post on the website of another demo named Donna.  Donna used our circle scallop punch for her tree, and I just decided to make it bigger by using the scallop die for the Big Shot.  Thanks for the inspiration, Donna!

 

OK, here are detailed instructions as to how I cut the scallop to get four layers of tree.  You need all 30 scallops!

After cutting your scallop using your Big Shot machine, cut it exactly in half. 

This will give you two halves with 15 scallops on each half.

Next, take one of the halves and line it up as if you're going to cut it exactly in half - BUT DON'T!  You'd be cutting one of the 30 scallops in half.

 

Instead, find your center point on the straight ege of the half scallop.

 

Now pivot the piece just 1/2 scallop to the left or right and cut in between two scallops. This will leave you with two pieces - one with eight scallops and one with seven.

You now have the two bottom layers of your tree!

 

Find the center point of the straight edge of the other half-scallop (see pic. #3 above), and pivot it so that you cut off six scallops.

 

Pivot again and cut off five more scallops.

Layer all your pieces to make your tree.  I sponged the edges with white craft ink.

Big Shot Basket

Here's a project we'll make tonight at my Big Shot class.  It uses the SU! exclusive Baskets & Blooms die and the gorgeous Autumn Vine Designer Series Paper available in the Holiday Mini Catalog (p. 7).

Another Big Shot Sample

OK, this idea just flew into my head during a recent car trip to Virginia.  I have no idea if anyone else has come up with something like this yet or not, but if they have, I haven't seen it.  I'm not sure what to call it, but it holds a cello bag of candy corn in the middle.  Here's how I made it:  I cut out two of the small pennants using the Big Shot, scored them each 1" from the top, overlapped and adhered together the top scored portions, folded the sides up and tied them together with ribbon.  Pretty simple!  I think this would make a nice placecard for a holiday dinner.  Enjoy!

Holiday Card Camps to Raise Funds for My Daughter's Robotics team!

Hello everyone!  I'm helping my daughter's Jr. High Robotics team with fundraising by holding a Holiday Card Camp.  There are several dates to pick from (see below).  If you've never heard of Robotics, click here to learn about this wonderful program:  www.usfirst.org.  Robotics is a great program that is helping to inspire and teach kids about science and math.  These kids could well be our future engineers!  We have a lot of fundraising to do to pay for our robot kit, team shirts, travel costs, etc., so I'm trying to do my part while giving my customers what they want at the same time.

Did I mention that my daughter is the ONLY girl on the team, which consists of 11 kids?  How cool is that?!

 

Here are the cards we'll be making - a variety for several upcoming holidays!   I hope you can join us and help support kids who want to learn about math/science.

Big Shot Bonanza - Day Six (so I can't count)

Well, as I went to type up this post, I see that I numbered day five, "day four".  Oh brother.  Sorry about that!  I've actually been out of town at my great-niece's wedding, so my mind hasn't exactly been on stamping.  I'm home now and hopefully back to counting correctly.  Here's day six's sample, a banner made using the Pennant die (this is the smaller of the two pennants that are on the die).  It's hard to see, but the background (stars) is heat embossed with our Iridescent Ice embossing powder.  Enjoy!
